The popularity of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) for use in hybrid organic–inorganic materials and devices has grown the past two decades due to desirable properties such as good thermal stability biocompatibility, well their potential be functionalized a wide range applications, from polymer composites optoelectronics. Herein, role POSS photonic including sensing, bioimaging, optoelectronic devices, is summarized. Functionalized building blocks commonly incorporated with luminescent are identified, areas growth within field discussed. addition light-emitting widely shown prevent aggregation organic lumophores inorganic nanocrystals, leading reduced photoluminescence quenching. unit also capable acting passivating agent nanocrystals thin films, improving emission quantum yields photoluminescent devices. therefore offers enhance both functional cutting-edge technologies.
